SportsZone — ProSharp Profiling & Sharpening

What Is Profiling

Profiling reshapes the steel along its length to tune how your skates sit on the ice—controlling balance, acceleration, agility, and top-speed stability. A sharpen then fine-tunes bite versus glide on that profile.

Blade Shape

We set radii/zones (Quad, Zuperior, Ellipse) so your contact points match how you skate.

Pitch & Balance

Micro-adjusts your center of gravity (toe-biased, neutral, heel-biased) to change first steps and edge feel.

Edge Contact

Optimizes steel-to-ice for smoother transitions and more predictable pushes.

When to Profile

  • New steel or new holders
  • Feel off-balance / lose quick starts
  • Switching style or position
Recommended 1–2× per season

What You’ll Feel

  • Quicker first steps & tighter turns
  • More stable top speed
  • Smoother edge-to-edge

How We Do It

  1. Quick chat about your goals
  2. Cut final profile & sharpen to your hollow
  3. Borrow demo blades to test at your next ice time
How to test: We don’t use in-store tiles. Borrow up to three demo blades and use them all in the same ice time for back-to-back feel. Swapping across three separate skates makes it hard to remember how the first setup felt.

Sharpening: Bite vs Glide

Choose a hollow to balance glide and bite. We’ll match it to your weight, ice, and preference.

More Glide More Bite
Recommended: 5/8″ — balanced all-round bite and glide.

FAQ

Do I need to book an appointment?

No booking needed. To confirm demo blade sizes, check our contact & hours page and call.

How often should I re-profile?

Typically 1–2× per season, or any time you replace steel/holders, feel a balance change, or your goals change.

What brands are demo blades available for?

CCM and Bauer holders. Availability varies by size.

Is profiling worth it if I only want a better sharpen?

Yes. Profiling shapes the entire blade (acceleration, transitions, speed, stability). The sharpen then fine-tunes bite vs glide on that profile.
